-Back in middle school, Yata actually didn’t have that many friends, and it was implied that he had some sort of family problem (probably on his dad’s side, since the drama tracks imply he was quite fond of his mom). Yellow said that if Yata lived like a normal student with lots of friends and no problems at all, he would’ve never chosen to join street gangs like HOMRA and just focused on his youthful life, joining sports clubs and the such.

-But though he isn’t as cynical as Fushimi, he does have his complaints about the world. He thinks it’d be awesome if he had some sort of cool power that’ll really shock the world, very much the thoughts of your typical chuunibyou. 

-In that sense he found companionship in Fushimi, who were both very chuunibyou. And they seriously thought that they could overturn the world together, but of course, that’s what all chuunibyous thought at that point in their life. And it’s the harsh fact of life that middle schoolers don’t have very much in terms of swaying the world.

-But he eventually met the Red King Suoh, who had actual power. Suoh must’ve seemed like some sort of dark hero to Yata.
